Job Free Four Ways to Quit the Rat Race and Achieve Financial Freedom on Your Terms (Audible Audio Edition) Jake Desyllas The Voluntary Life Press Books

Jake is a wonderful communicator and a great example of someone who has lived job-free. He put in the work on his podcast The Voluntary Life to develop his own story and gather stories from others, and it shows in the breadth of this book and in the important narrative of how the people featured here found freedom.

Even though the chapters cover different (and sometimes competing) ways of quitting the rat race, Jake is balanced, helpful, and curious throughout, and it makes a new reader want to approach entrepreneurship, unjobbing, etc. in the same way. Jake's deeper-than-average philosophical and economic understanding helps the book avoid the pitfalls vagueness and wish fulfillment of so much self-help literature, and the practical advice here is tested and achievable.

Regardless of where you stand in your career, you should read it. You need to know that you have options. You need to know that you're doing what you're doing because it makes you come alive. As soon as you know you can live job-free, you'll be completely free to do just that.

Job Free Four Ways to Quit the Rat Race and Achieve Financial Freedom on Your Terms (Audible Audio Edition) Jake Desyllas The Voluntary Life Press Books Reviews

Its been a great read. Working on my own entrepreneurial activities, this book provides some solid points to consider when establishing goals for yourself and your potential business. The advice in Chapter 6 really was valuable and helped reinforce my own decisions.

If you are considering breaking out on your own, give this book a read. You will see how your goals fit into one of the 4 job-free lifestyle.
INSPIRING! … It exceeded my expectations with it's concise, easy to understand, easy to follow content with actionable suggestions. … I liked that is was so concise and not full of a bunch of fluff. Time is precious and I'm often thinking, 'get to the point' with many other how-to's. The best references are the examples of others' experiences which this book is full of. It was carefully put together and is a 'must read' for anyone interested in financial freedom and thus individual freedom.
This book was recommended on one of my favorite podcasts. I picked it up right away and began reading. I was only a few pages in and I put the book down to go adjust my savings. The book reads like a conversation and it's all real advice that anyone can apply to their life. Maybe you will prefer some strategies over others but there is something for everyone. It also links you to some interviews from his podcast, The Voluntary Life, and I recommend that as well. If I had this book 10 years ago I'd probably be well on my way to a nice early retirement!
Jake has written a clear and concise summary of the four methods he's discovered for "quitting the rat race." He explores these ideas thoroughly and provides several personal anecdotes from people he has interviewed on his podcast, The Voluntary Life. As someone who has freed himself from the rat race via his fourth method, starting and later selling a business, Jake has first hand experience with the concepts he discusses in his book. Beyond outlining his four methods, Jake provides additional value by helping the reader make decisions about which of the four methods best suits their lifestyle. He also makes the reader aware of some of the psychological challenges that might be encountered by exiting the rat race. I enjoy Jake's clear writing style and found this book to be a handy summary of many topics covered on his podcast.
As an experienced entrepreneur and Jake's friend in real life, I approached Job Free expecting good advice but not anything new. So wrong.

I learned a great deal about how to categorize and analyze the different types of entrepeneurship. In fact, I myself have experimented with unjobbing, lifestyle and startup strategies. Recently, I sold my startup and have been exploring the line between lifestyle and startup with my new venture. Perhaps my lifestyle business can be franchised, at which point I need to explain that what I'm offering to franchisees is a lifestyle business. All around, the information in Job Free is highly useful and well researched. Furthermore, it is concise and easy to read.

Most of all, I enjoyed the personal insights from Peter's story. It highlights to me the most important things about entrepreneurship, and the dangers lurking in success. Even as we achieve new tiers of success, it is always important to take time to revisit roots, morals, and long term goals.

For me, Job Free was a wonderful opportunity for both self-reflection and strategic analysis of future plans.
This is a powerful book that can help you live the life of your dream. In this work Desyllas provides not only the inspiration but the practical steps to achieve the lifestyle and the job – – – or unjob– – – that you want.

I love the rich examples that he cited from other successful people and how he showed us what to do to apply those in our own life. This book is not for everyone, but for those who want a lifestyle of freedom and living a life of their own choosing, in their own way, it is a must read!

I highly recommend this to my fellow entrepreneurs and freedom-loving people around the world. Read this book. Devour it. Live it. You will be glad you did.
